Update of the Code of Good Practice in Statistics for Latin America and the Caribbean

This document is an update of the Code of Good Practice in Statistics for Latin America and the Caribbean published in 2012 by the Statistical Conference of the Americas (SCA). This new version was prepared by the Working Group on Peer Review Mechanism of the SCA, 2022-2023 biennium, whose coordination was in charge of the National Administrative Department of Statistics (DANE in Spanish) of Colombia, and had the Statistics Division of ECLAC as Technical Secretariat.

The update of the Code is carried out due to the need to respond to changes in the data ecosystem and to align with other instruments developed subsequently, such as the Generic Law on Official Statistics for Latin America or the Manual of the national framework for quality assurance in official statistics. Among the changes that were carried out, is the incorporation of a new principle related to the use of secondary data sources, the emphasis on good practices associated with the accessibility of statistical information by users and the relevance of the production of statistical information on groups that are more vulnerable than the rest of the population.
