Objectives

General

The working group aims to help national statistical systems to build capacities and develop methodologies on measuring information and communications technologies (ICTs)..

Specific

  1. Facilitate the production in the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean of relevant statistics on the use, availability and impact of ICTs on the economy and society at large, and to establish a baseline for a common set of indicators for the region.
  2. Disseminate indicators on access to and use of ICTs.
  3. Promote the strengthening of the regional database of the Observatory for the Information Society in Latin America and the Caribbean (OSILAC).
  4. Contribute to the achievement of Objective 23 of the Digital Agenda for Latin America and the Caribbean (eLAC2018) to promote the measurement of access to and use of ICT at the national and regional levels.
  5. Follow up on the commitment to produce ICTs indicators contained in the Sustainable Development Goals.

The working group also intends to:

  1. Significantly increase the number of Latin American and Caribbean countries that incorporate the measurement of ICTs into their household and business surveys.
  2. Continue fulfilling its commitment to systematize and disseminate ICT statistics and indicators with a gender-based approach.
  3. Foster the involvement of the countries of the Caribbean and Central America in the working group’s activities.
  4. Harmonize techniques for the measurement of ICTs so as to promote their international comparability.

  • Encuesta sobre producción de estadísticas de las Tecnologías de la Información y las Comunicaciones (TIC) en ministerios e instituciones gubernamentales a cargo de las agendas digitales nacionales (2016).
  • Encuesta Caracterización del proceso de creación de estadísticas armonizadas sobre Tecnologías de la Información y la Comunicación (TIC) en los organismos nacionales de estadística (2016).
  • Módulo de TIC revisado y actualizado para el sector de la educación (Marco Conceptual para la nueva encuesta del UIS sobre Estadísticas de Tecnologías de la Información y la Comunicación (TIC) en Educación).
