This event is organized by the Statistics Division of ECLAC in collaboration with the National Institute of Statistics (INE) of Chile. Its purpose is to promote the exchange of experiences and knowledge on the operationalization of ethics in official statistics, drawing on the recent publication by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), Ethics in Official Statistics: Foundations and Practices to Foster Public Trust. The event will feature panelists from UNECE, the Italian National Institute of Statistics (ISTAT), and Statistics Canada.
The discussion will address the challenges and opportunities arising from the increasing use of administrative records, integrated data sources, geospatial information, artificial intelligence, and other innovations in statistical production. It will also explore ethical principles, governance mechanisms, organizational culture, and practical experiences aimed at strengthening public trust, transparency, and accountability within the national statistical systems of Latin America and the Caribbean.
